AKG Varimotion Technology

Posted by Alyssa on 16th Jan 2014

The heart of any headphone or microphone is the diaphragm. It’s the component that handles the challenging task of turning its mechanical motion into the electrical signal that delivers the sound. Varimotion from AKG is a unique, patented technology that allows the production of a diaphragm whose thickness varies along its diameter. With the help of this innovative diaphragm, AKG is able to precisely tune the capsule for the highest level of performance to provide powerful, accurate, clear and feedback-free sound.

The principle behind this technology is a dynamic membrane characterized by the lamination of a two-layer material, one lightweight and the other dense. The thin outer edges allow for extended low-frequency response while the thicker center of the membrane provides high SPL handling. The diaphragm allows the response of the transducer to be accurately tweaked in its molding process. On top of that, the transducer is shipped with a high-output Neodymium (NdFeBr) magnet for lower noise and wider dynamic range.

The innovative Varimotion technology is a huge help in controlling the capsule’s resonance behavior and so minimizes the need for expensive mechanical tuning resonators in the shaft of the microphone. This is a killer feature in environments where feedback is an issue. Varimotion technology enables headphones to reproduce the frequency bandwidth in a natural and crisp clear way.

Varimotion is offered in a wide range of AKG headphones and microphones to enable AKG customers to get the most accurate reproduction of their sound, whether on stage or in the studio.
